Oak Hill Acres agrees to provide approximately 22 weeks (middle of May to middle of October) farm-fresh, certified (by the Iowa Dept. of Agriculture) organic vegetables to each of our share holders of our CSA. A CSA agreement is a mutual commitment between our farm and the community supporters of our farm who actually purchase a share of the CSA harvest. The bounty of this harvest is dependent not only on our skill, as stewards of the earth, but also on the whim of mother nature. We make it our goal to give you a wide variety of organic vegetables as they come into season. We plant an abundant amount of vegetable crops, but cannot promise the exact timing of kinds, varieties, or amounts in each week's share due to mother nature. If there is a crop failure, you may not receive that crop in your cooler or just a small amount of that crop. The early week's share will not have as much in them, but as the season goes along, they will get more full. All products that are placed in coolers are grown on our farm. The same with all products for sale at the farmer's market. We have two (2) options this year to help accommodate share holders better.
In season crops that we plan to have in coolers: hard red winter wheat; rye; basil; chives; herb plants; head and loose lettuce; spinach; radishes; rhubarb; turnips and greens; kale; mustard greens; boy choy; kohlrabi; sugar snap, shelling, and snow peas; broccoli; green and red cabbage; cauliflower; white, red, and yellow potatoes; collard greens; summer squash; green, purple, and wax beans; heirloom tomatoes; okra; sweet and hot peppers; muesclan mix; arrugula; totsoi; eggplant; onions; Chinese cabbage plus much more.
OPTION 1: You receive a weekly share cooler of vegetables and herbs. Coolers are dropped off at a designated site, day, and time each week. Drop sites at the present time are in Davenport, Moline, Muscatine, West Liberty, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Coralville. All CSA members receive the same amount and type of products each week. The products in the cooler will be bagged by product type and washed. They will not be processed. You receive between four to seven different veggies each week. The products in the cooler with be bagged by product type and washed. They will not be processed. You receive between four to seven veggies each week. You will be sent an e-mail with what is in your cooler each week; also, we try to put in recipes. There may be a few unusual vegetables in your cooler that you may not be sure what they are. We do not provide substitutes to be fair to everyone. You will have an option of a full share or a half share. A full share usually will feed two adults and two teenagers three or four meals a week. A half share feeds a couple and a small child two or three meals a week. A full share will have double what a half share has in it. Your share will be delivered in an insulated cooler on a weekly basis. We would very much appreciate it if you would return your cooler cleaned and wiped out. If you are sharing a CSA cooler, it is your responsibility to divide your own cooler.
OPTION 1 FEES:
A full share is $600 for the season. $400 is due with the signing of this contract. The second installment of $200 is due by July 1st. You will receive about $304 to $35 of product per week based on farmer's market price.
A half share is $330 for the season. $230 is due with the signing of this contract. The second installment of $100 is due by July 1st. You will receive about $15 to $20 of product per week.
If the second installment is not paid by July 1st, we will suspend delivery until it is received. By signing this contract, you are acknowledging that you have contracted us to grow your vegetables for you. Because the majority of our expenses are up front, we cannot offer a refund. You can pay the whole amount up front if you choose. If you are unable to pick up your share cooler some week(s) because of vacation or other circumstances, we are unable to double your next week's cooler. Please find a family member or friend to pick up your cooler for you.
OPTION 2: We are offering a punch card. You will still be contracting us to grow your vegetables, but this way you can choose what veggies you want that are available at that time. We have stands at three Farmer's Markets: the Iowa City Market (at the corner of Gilbert and Washington Streets) on Wednesdays & Saturdays, the Freight House Farmer's Market (at Modern Wooden Ballpark in Davenport) Saturday only, and the Cedar Rapids Farmer's Market (Downtown). What you would do is show up and choose whatever products that you want, in whatever amount that you choose to spend at that time. We would then punch your card for the amount of your purchase. It will be your responsibility to bring your punch card with you each time you come. With this option, you do not have to show up every week and if you are on vacation, you won't have to worry about finding someone to pick up your cooler. Also, with this option, you will be able to purchase bedding plants and cut flowers. It will be your responsibility to use up your punch card by the end of the season, which is October 31st of this year. We will try to notify you of what is available that week. To get best variety and selection, it is better to show up at the earlier hours of each market. Please do not wait until the end of the season to use up your punch cards. There may not be much variety at the end of the season. Also if you plan to purchase a large amount at once, please notify us ahead of time so that we may plan accordingly.
OPTION 2 FEES:
Punch Card worth $250: You receive $250 worth of product for $225 based on our farmer's market prices.
Punch Card worth $450: You receive $450 worth of product for $400 based on our farmer's market prices.
You can decide which sized card would be best for your family. Your full payment will be due at the signing of this contract. We cannot offer a refund. We are offering the reduced price punch cards because there will not be as much time involved in packaging the vegetables and packing the share cooler.
